Elderly

quote-openRosie first walked into my treatment room 3 years ago. When I asked her how she was she replied “Some days are good and some days are bad”. Rosie is in her seventies and suffers from arthritis. She leans heavily on a stick. I treat her using reflexology but with a gentle touch as her feet often hurt. Recently, when I asked her again how she was, she replied “Some days are good and some days are bad but since I’ve been coming to you, more of them are good”quote-close

ElderlyIn a recent study (Helme and Gibson 1997) one third of patients over 65 were found to be suffering from frequent pain and a further quarter from occasional pain. This was mainly centred in the back, the joints and the hands and feet. I do not claim that reflexology or reiki can cure any specific condition but when used alongside conventional medicine, they can bring relief and support to those living with frequent pain. And my elderly clients tell me there is a further benefit to my treatments – they enjoy the sensation of being touched as this happens less as they grow older.

Reflexology can support you in the following ways:

  • Improve mobility
  • Reduce pain and discomfort
  • Create a feeling of connection and relaxation
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Create a feeling of peace therefore improving sleep
  • Revitalise energy and reduce lethargy
